What are Olympics?

The Olympic games is an international sporting event in which over 200 countries from across the world participate. Its believed to have started 2000 years ago in Greece and is known to be the competition ground for athletes. There are two core components of the Olympic Games : The Summer Games and The Winter Games. The Olympics occur every four years and each year different country hosts the game, the objective is to give each country an opportunity to be the host of the event.

The International Olympic Committee is an international non-governmental non-profit organization based in Switzerland. This committee is responsible for selecting the host city, overseeing the planning of the Olympic Games, updating and approving the sports program, and negotiating sponsorship and broadcasting rights. At present there are 105 active members and 32 honorary members in this committee.

The Olympic Symbol is more popularly known as the Olympic rings. The symbol consists of five intertwined rings. These rings represent the unity of the five inhabited continents Africa, America, Asia, Australia, and Europe. The five colors of the rings—blue, yellow, black, green, and red—were chosen because every nation had at least one of them on its national flag.
