Halloween may be a children’s holiday, but the party does not exclude the child in you. Once the children are taken care of, or even if you don’t have children, celebrate Halloween for yourselves by throwing an adults’ Halloween party! Contrary to what you may believe, costume parties did not end with the 80s. Invite selected friends for a themed, ‘Killer Cocktail’ Halloween party this year, and have a ball!
Since this is your Halloween party, begin by selecting a theme suited to the costume that you have decided to wear –or look best in. Popular ideas include historical figures (a gorgeously haughty Marie-Antoinette is always a good time), Superheroes (bring back your childhood heroes), or go all out and make it a masquerade ball! Halloween colors are orange and black, so it may be a good idea to decorate your living room in these colors.
Having a ‘Killer Cocktail’ party is an excellent idea for Halloween, and the perfect fun, relaxing evening among friends. The idea is to provide a selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic bottles, and take turns experimenting in mixing creepy cocktails for your friends –hopefully with killer results. Part of the fun includes rating each cocktail, and devising a bloodcurdling name for it, worthy of Halloween. Alternatively, you may search for Halloween cocktail recipes online and make a selection to offer your guests, who will take turns at making them. Make sure that you have cocktail shakers available, and plenty of ice.
Your selection of ingredients must include blood-colored bottles, such as red wines, cranberry juice, Bloody Mary mix, or blackberry brandy. Pre-prepare cocktail glasses by coating their rims with uneven drips of red food coloring –and don’t be careful about it. Red food coloring is also an excellent agent for disguising your usual canapés, snacks, and finger foods into bloody repulsive-looking messes –just the ticket for Halloween! You can also add coloring to your ‘Killer Cocktails’, should they not look bloody enough.
Round off the spooky evening with a horrifying story-telling session, or else a hair-raising movie. In choosing your film, prefer a heart-stopping classic, or else a spine-chilling new release that none of you has watched yet. Keep the creepy canapés circulating, to soak up the deadly drinks you’ve been sampling, as mixing alcohols too much may result in screaming hangovers.
If your guests do not leave your home shaking, consider your evening a bust… but even that translates to success at Halloween!
